Advancing Periodontal Science Through Research

At PerioHome, excellence in patient care goes hand-in-hand with a strong commitment to clinical research. Dr Meizi Eliezer, a Swiss-trained, EFP-accredited periodontist, is currently leading two randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) in collaboration with Victor Babeș University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timișoara. These high-profile studies are officially registered in the WHO-recognised ISRCTN registry, ensuring transparency and the highest scientific standards.

By driving research of this calibre, Dr Meizi demonstrates that her treatments are not only based on extensive clinical experience, but also on the most up-to-date evidence and innovations available worldwide.

Trial 1: Root Coverage with CTG + CLHA vs CTG + EMD

ISRCTN17988982This study evaluates the effectiveness of combining a connective tissue graft (CTG) with either:

  • Cross-linked hyaluronic acid (CLHA), or
  • Enamel matrix derivative (EMD, Emdogain)

Objective: To determine which approach delivers superior root coverage outcomes in patients with gingival recession.Primary endpoint: Percentage of root coverage at 6 months.Secondary outcomes: Clinical attachment level (CAL), esthetic results (RES), and patient-reported pain (VAS).Status: Active (not recruiting).

Trial 2: Regeneration of Infrabony Defects with Bone Graft + CLHA vs Bone Graft + EMD

ISRCTN68819973This trial focuses on the regenerative treatment of infrabony periodontal defects using bone grafts in combination with either CLHA or EMD.

Objective: To compare clinical and radiographic outcomes of these two regenerative approaches.Primary endpoint: Clinical attachment level gain at 6 and 12 months.Secondary outcomes: Probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), radiographic bone fill, and post-operative discomfort (VAS).Status: Active (not recruiting).

Why This Matters

Randomized controlled clinical trials are the gold standard of evidence in medicine and dentistry. Dr Meizi’s leadership in these studies places her at the forefront of periodontal innovation, ensuring her patients benefit from cutting-edge regenerative techniques backed by rigorous scientific evaluation.

This ongoing research not only strengthens global knowledge in periodontology but also confirms why Dr Meizi is regarded as one of Israel’s leading specialists in gum recession treatment and complex periodontal surgery.
