When orthodontic treatment ends, most patients and clinicians expect long-term stability with the help of fixed retainers. However, a complication known as Wire Syndrome (WS) can compromise those results.
Wire Syndrome refers to undesired tooth movement despite an intact bonded retainer. This movement can mimic orthodontic relapse, but its cause lies in unwanted forces within the retainer itself. Because it is frequently underdiagnosed, treatment is often delayed, leading to functional and esthetic challenges — and in some cases, periodontal complications.
Dr. Meizi Eliezer: Leading Expertise in Periodontology & Implant Dentistry
Dr. Meizi Eliezer, a European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) certified specialist, trained at the University of Bern under Professor Anton Sculean. With over 20 years of clinical experience and thousands of surgeries performed, she is frequently referred the most complex periodontal cases by other clinicians in Israel.
Dr. Meizi combines her surgical expertise with academic research as a current PhD candidate at Victor Babes University in Timișoara, focusing on recession, gum disease, and long-term treatment outcomes. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and she is an active voice in global periodontology education.
